Q: The Panasonic LX2 has received massive success from the public thanks to its excellent image quality, accurate colour reproduction and the 16:9 CCD. It has been regarded as a classic model by many users, it has now been released for almost 2 years, we would like to know if Panasonic has any plans for making a replacement for the LX2. And if the 16:9 CCD will be used in other models.
A: The LX2 is one of our most successful products. Some of you might know that we have two product announcements every year, one in Spring (March, April) and one in Autumn (September, October). We normally announce consumer and family oriented models in Spring, and prosumer models and camcorders in Autumn. The LX2 has been available for quite a while now, and is a very successful model, we have been working on the replacement ever since the LX2 was released. Regarding the CCD, Panasonic has devoted a lot of time in researching and working on new technologies, not only CCD but also CMOS. At this stage, CMOS and CCD has their own advantages, CMOS is considered to be better at capturing still images whilst CCD is better at capturing motion pictures. Therefore it depends on what the product's design is in order to determine which sensor to use.
