I've read through this thread and believe it's important that people that have the problem with blurred images with the k-x at shutter speeds that normally are safe to get a sharp image report about the problem.
This is a technical problem and has of course nothing to do with the kind of photos you prefer to take regarding your aesthetic preference, as someone seemed to insinuate earlier in this thread.
I have lots of experience when it comes to shooting with both slr:s and dslr:s. I currently shoot with an old analogue Nikon F2 and the Pentax K20d. I've never before come upon a problem similar to that of the k-x.
Before Christmas I bought the k-x which I thought was the perfect combo with my K20d. I made a trip abroad and when I came home I couldn't believe how many unsharp/blurry images there were. First I thought it was a user error or af-issues. Then, when saw the same pattern with different lenses, which I also had checked for af-issues before I went away, at shutter speeds around 1/125 s, I begun to realize that something was wrong with the camera.
Since the trip I've upgraded the firmware to the latest version and the problem is still there. The lenses I've used are the 18-55 kit lens, the da 21/3.2 ltd, the fa 50/1,4 and a third party Tamron 28/2,5 adaptall 2. The funniest thing is that at shutter speeds from around 1/30 s to 125/s I got some of the sharpest ones with the manual focusing Tamron because I then used the LV function for focusing.
I'm going to do more tests before I take the camera back for repair/return, but for now I can say that my copy has some severe problem with the mirror slap and/or the sr at shutter speeds around 125/s. To get a really sharp picture I have to go over 1/200 s, then I'm talking about using my da 21 ltd. The problem seems also to disappear when using LV, which makes me draw the conclusion that the mirror slap is at least a part of the problem.
If I can just butt in here, as I've done some tests which fairly well mimic the poster's setup - 100 meter target, DA 21, and 14 shots carefully handheld with SR on and SR off, then scoring the individual images.
At 1/125 sec, the answer is an emphatic yes - SR on produced a significant increase in motion blur.
At 1/60 sec, SR on and SR off didn't make a significant difference to the amount of motion blur.
In both cases, SR should of course reduced the amount of motion blur. There is clealry a problem with my unit and I've already contacted my supplier and have been given the option to return the camera.
