Sports photographers and videographers will no doubt be very interested in the
1.3x crop mode, which effectively creates a 2x focal length magnification and unlocks the option for 50/60i recording, and which allows 15MP capture at 7fps from an image area covered almost entirely by the D7100's AF array.
According to Nikon, the D7100 offers
the same level of weather-sealing as the D300S and D800. Its seals are illustrated here, as yellow lines. Note also that the D7100's front plate is polycarbonate - top and rear plates are magnesium alloy.
Overall then, despite some minor niggles, the D7100 seems like a
very strong release. It also appears - finally - to have supplanted the D300S as Nikon's top-end DX-format DSLR. In fact in Europe at least, the D7100 is officially being billed by Nikon as its new 'flagship DX' camera, the D300S finally disappearing from the lineup, off into the sunset.
