Günther verschweigt diesem Forum seine Testbilder der FZ18 von der IFA?!
So geht es nicht!

Today I made it to IFA to look around for Panasonics newest and best, namely the FZ18 and the L10.
FZ18:
After 3 min. at the Panasonic booth I walked away with an FZ18 rented out for one hour shooting away at liberty (link to gallery below).
In shooting I restricted myself to i-A mode, which seems to be a well conceived amalgam of A- and i-mode on the TZ2 with the addition of face detection - works well.
The pictures taken with the FZ18 are a bit sharper than the ones the TZ2 delivers, perhaps due to some fine tuning of the lens design and/or higher pixel count of the sensor (8 vs. 6 MP, remember mine is the TZ2).
A cursory look at the noise pattern of the FZ18: I like it better than that of the TZ2.
Will I buy the FZ18, if my TZ2 would be stolen? No.
The formfactor and weight increase are too large. The zoom reach of 505 mm is not that necessary for me, f/2.8 would be nice to have but not n the form and weight factor of the FZ18.
An updated TZ3 would be my choice for sure (noise pattern, i-A, a bit more snappy, ...)
L10:
The L10 could be handled and shot at the booth but no images might be taken home.
I have no experience with DSLRs at all. But here goes ...
The view finder of the L10 would work, but the multi-vari LCD was most welcome (used to that from my Canon G2 and A620). I could expend with the DSLR part of the L10 and just use it with the LCD.
However the mirror mechanism worked without any (!) noticeable slap or vibration. People better qualified than I should have their say on this, though.
The 14-50mm and the 14-150 mm were both there and could be handled. Retracted they have the same form factor and weigh in at about the same. If the IQ of the 14-150 mm is on par wth the 14-50 mm lens, I would consider it to be total idocy to not offer the 14-150 mm lens as the kit-lens. As far as I have understood the Elmar-design, both lenses are very similar in optical built the main difference in cost to built being another 2 or 3 inch long plastic tubing that might cost about a couple of dollar in production, and possibly some very slightly larger lenses costing another measly dollars. Now, if the 14-150 lens is not on par quality wise then the 14-50 mm would make sense, of course.
